Since 2008, the WA Charity Orchestra has been constantly evolving and growing. WACO is not the same ensemble or organisation that it was all those years ago. We began as a summer-only event donating all raised funds to other charities. Today, we have a direct impact in the community changing lives through music by doing our own charity work, and have two full time ensembles performing throughout the year.
While the organisation itself will keep the WACO name and continue to change lives through music in the community, we have decided after much discussion to rename the orchestra and choir. Moving forward, the orchestra will now be known as the WEST COAST PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA (which we are sure will be shortened to “West Coast Phil”), and the WACO Choir as the WEST COAST PHILHARMONIC CHORUS.
Our new logo represents the stunning ocean sunsets we enjoy here on the west coast of Australia. The word “philharmonic” means “music-loving” which we feel suits us perfectly. We hope the new name will help us to reach a wider audience so that more people can appreciate the great performances we give.
Thank you for your support of WACO. We look forward to seeing you at future concerts of the WA Wind Symphony and West Coast Phil!
