The WA Wind Symphony have struck it rich in their first foray onto the national stage of exceptional wind bands around Australia!
The team at WACO Inc. are incredibly happy to share the results from our participation in the Open A Grade of the Australian National Online Festival of Bands 2021 – a celebration of wind and brass bands from around the country in a digital-only festival held over the Easter long weekend.

What a fantastic result!
The WA Wind Symphony have previously entered the Western Australian State Band Championships but 2021 marks their first entry into the National Festival. Held in conjunction with the Band Association of NSW and the Australian National Band Championships, the online-only event allowed bands the opportunity to participate despite fluctuating restrictions to travel.
This year the Festival chose a feedback-centred system allowing each ensemble to be assessed individually on skill and performance ability versus a more competitive model used in former live competitions. Each ensemble is awarded their results independently of other performances which is a great way of providing fair, constructive recognition to the vast amount of musical talent in this country!
The four levels of recognition included Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum – so everyone at WACO Inc. is truly grateful for the awards and feedback received from our performance.
WA Wind Symphony Music Director and Conductor Samuel Parry was thrilled with the outstanding result:
I’m ecstatic at this result – being from WA we haven’t been able to enter a national competition like this, but this year’s online festival has allowed our amazing WAWS members to truly show what the Western Australian Wind Symphony is capable of!
We’d like to acknowledge and congratulate fellow A Grade category ensembles North West Wind Ensemble, Northern Beaches Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Unley Concert Band and the Hobart City Band Inc Wind Symphony for their fantastic performances and kind words for the WA Wind Symphony’s first national festival!
